Members of BJLGA It has been well documented that The President of the United States of America and Commander in Chief, Barack Obama is a golfer, and a self-confessed poor one at that. But did you know that he could be a further inspriation for ladies golf?A far fetching statement perhaps, but not for the Black Jewels Ladies Golf Association based in New York. This fabulously named association was founded in 2005 by an enthusiastic bevy of ladies lead by Rasheena Wilson, their CEO, (pictured right in centre) with the usual vigour and excitement. Chapters were established in different parts of the US and events were organised throughout. The Association's mission is to: - encourage African American women and young girls toward healthy personal development and relationships through programs focused around the game of Golf.
- further the participation of African American women and young girls in the game of golf by providing clinics, golf skill instruction and opportunities for athletic development and competition.
- provide opportunities for mentoring relationships with African American women and young girls, encouraging those being mentored toward personal achievement, goal setting and professional success.
Fun girls So with Barack Obama, being the first African American in the White House and a golfer to boot, his role as a African American Golf Ambassador may well spark off an influx of interest in the Black Jewels Ladies Golf Association and increasing membership. I do hope so!And as the picture here reveals, it isn't all trudging through the grass...these girls like to have fun!
