At the end of the first of two Qualifiers, and with a 16 under par total 272, Sun-Ju Ahn of South Korea took top spot in leading the field of 162 hopefuls. Runner-up was Sweden's talented amateur Anna Nordqvist with a 14 under par total fllowed by Japan's Miki Saiki two shots further back on 12 under par. Amonst the three players in joint 4th place is the reknowned and very talented Michelle Wie, alongside. For those with a European interest in the event, Martina Eberl was the second best placed European, behind Nordqvist, in 8th place with a 4 under par total, and South African Stacy Bregman shared joint 10th place with England's new golden girl of golf, Melissa Reid, who is outperforming established player in Europe during her Rookie year on the Ladies European Tour (LET). Tania Elosegui of San Sebastian, northern Spain won through to the final stages by shooting an even par tournament alongside Australia's Karistie Smith. It's worth mentioning that our previously featured USA tour player Megan Heckeroth is back on the scene having missed out on the tours last year, and she won through to the final stages with a +1 total and joint18th finish. It is good to see Megan returning to tour golf. Ofcourse where there is a cut involved, then there is always disappointment for some and surprisingly the following players failed to make it to the final stages and will now have to rely upon a second Sectional Qualifier in Florida in October; Henni Zuel (+7), Becky Brewerton (+9), Beatriz Recari, (+9). Those that missed the 2 round cut (there are two cuts in these events), Elisa Serramia and Kiran Matharu. The LPGA Qualifying School now moves on to Florida on 30th September until 3rd October before the Final stages 1st to 7th December.
